Farmchicks - Day 2

Okay, Sunday at the Farm Chicks sale, we breezed through and got some items we couldn't get out of our minds, and did some more browsing. There was still a lot of good stuff left...

I had several things to go back and make offers on, and none of my offers were refused! People were great!

I was bad about keeping track of who's who (maybe it was the six-month-old in the front pack distracting me), but this one I made sure to take a card from - it might be my favorite booth at the whole sale...

It was Hutch Studios and it was amazing! The 'storefront' is made of cardboard and couldn't have been cuter. What a creative and affordable way to decorate a booth! That cardboard bird nest mobile is hard to see in the pic but was so cute - I aim to make one! My favorite and only 'splurge' purchase came from this store, which I will show you in my next post. I'll give you a sneak peak if you go to her Etsy Shop, his name is Fergie.

The scenery was pretty on the way home. The farmlands were amazing, and some places reminded me of the old Windows desktop picture...

That's the one I took, believe it or not. It looks just like the old desktop one though!

The little farms are always surrounded by a clump of trees like this...

Now, in the next picture, notice all those clumps of trees, further and further into the distance...

That is a lot of farms! So pretty! It always makes me thankful for all those families who work hard to grow our food. Don't get me started on that topic, though, I just watched Food Inc. I recommend it, but it will make you mad.

Then we came across the Columbia River which is huge and beautiful...

And this little gal was such a trooper over the 10+ hours she spent in her carseat over the weekend! She was sleeping and cuddling her little bear so sweetly...

Until the camera came out. She stops all cuteness when the camera comes out.

Farm Chicks - Day 1

This year, Leah and I opted to skip our Ladies' Tea so we could finally attend the Farm Chick's Antique Sale! The weather was glorious on the way to Spokane, Washington and we passed many farms along the way...

Leah's mom was kind enough to drive, so I got to enjoy the scenery. It was great to finally arrive, get out of the car, spend 20 minutes packing my crap into the stroller's tiny compartment, and walk up to this...

When we entered, we were greeted by this old milk truck...

I don't know why it was there, other than to look cute! See the cloud hanging behind it - they were awesome and looked just like the clouds in my pic at the top! How fun! Anyway, next we were greeted by this funny cake sculpture...

It was cute. It even had some frosting edging next to the galvanized metal layers. We noticed those blue mugs that said "cake" were disappearing, so we went on a hunt for the sculpture makers, so I could ask if we could take a mug, but when we found them, I wimped out. Maybe I will have more guts tomorrow. But we did find out they made the cake to honor a bakery that recently opened.

I was really impressed with the sale! In the Pacific Northwest we rarely have this type of sale and usually many of the booths are junk, lots are a hodge-podge and a couple are really well put together and actually have some style. At this sale, I'd say about 90% had serious style and were very attractive booths. I noticed they all had nice signs, and it looks like something these vendors do often, not just thrown together on a whim...

We're going back for a few things tomorrow, which we hope to snag at last-day-sale-prices, so I will bring you all the purchases I made for me as well as some purchases to tie up some loose ends at my MIL's house. For now, I will bring you some of the trends I saw, and many of the items and ideas I loved.

The first trend I picked up on was covering chairs in burlap-ish fabric...

Mom we should make a slipcover like either of those last two for your old chair! I liked the cozy, casual feel the burlap or rustic linen fabrics brought to the formal chairs. There was also a headboard covered in burlap...

Totally cute and unexpected.

Another thing I noticed was flags...

Most weren't for sale, but were used in displays. Leah makes banners from paper for various showers and parties in our circles, so it was fun to see the different ways the ladies made them. There were more I thought I got pictures of but I guess I got distracted by all the cuteness.

I was snapping plenty of remember-how-to-do-this-when-you-get-home pictures...

All the displays were just beautiful...

Rain Rain Go Away

We can't handle many more rainy days around here. The other day I decided to get out and take the kids for a walk, even though it was raining. After 5 minutes of Mark trying to help hold the umbrella, tangling the arms in my hair, and Susanna grabbing and pulling with all her might to get the umbrella handle in her mouth (she was in the front-pack), I flipped a u-turn and headed home.

At least Susie is having fun - I decided it was finally time to ditch her swing and pull out the old jumper I saved from when Mark was a baby...

She digs it. She is much happier standing up and jumping than she had been stuck sitting in the swing. I ordered the Bebe Pod chair, too, since she is working on sitting up by herself. She wants to sit up all the time but she is still such a flopper. Mark had one and it was really neat.

Speaking of Mark... the more it rains, the more we are stuck in the house, the more rowdy he gets...

Is that normal? I have a feeling it is! Sometimes I feel crazy too when I am stuck in the house!

Susanna is cool though...

She thinks her brother's antics are astonishing...

Progress - Master Bedroom Lamp Swap

Debbie and I purchased the Pottery Barn Eva Lamp for Debbie's bedroom several months ago. After a while, she decided she didn't like it for her room. She boxed it up and put it in her garage and asked me to return it and find something else to try. Then I had a baby and forgot all about it. When I went to return it this week it had been too long and they wouldn't take it back. Oops. Bad Decorator! So I took it home and... I might as well... no use having it sit around lonely and neglected in the box... I'm not going to keep it... I have to take pictures of it for CL anyway... and I just want to see...

Yeah, I had been looking for a lamp for my dresser with no luck, so I set it up in my bedroom. And it was okay. I have MUCH trouble finding acceptable lamps, no matter who's space I'm working on, so "okay" is pretty good with me. I had planned to sell it on CraigsList for her, and kept telling myself I didn't need such an expensive lamp. But it was the best thing I had seen so far so I wavered.

Then I was walking through Target knocking items off a list which did not contain 'lamp', when I saw what I didn't know I had been looking for -- at least not at Target...

It was chunky and charming and coordinated with the scheme in my room...

It gives me a little dejavu and I am pretty sure it is a late PB knock off. It seems like PB made one just like this in the past, though I can't find it online. With the Eva Lamp and shade totaling $99, the Target model comes in much cheaper at only $55 including the shade. I'm sold - Target model it is!

Anyone need an Eva Lamp? I'll start the bidding at half price!

And to top it off, I got one of the Target lamps for Debbie's room, too! =)
